Petal High Earns 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 16, 2022
PETAL, Miss. – Petal High School (PHS) has been recognized today by the U.S. Department of Education as a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School. PHS is the only high school in Mississippi to earn this prestigious honor, and among 297 schools across the nation.
The Education Department recognizes all schools in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores, subgroup student scores and graduation rates:
Exemplary High-Performing Schools are among their state's highest performing schools, as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing Schools are among their state's highest performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school's student groups and all students.
Petal High School was recognized as an Exemplary High-Performing School.
“This is the second time in our district’s history to receive this recognition, which speaks volumes to our students, faculty, staff and community as a whole,” said Dr. Matt Dillon, Petal School District superintendent of schools.
“They work hard to make the most of every educational opportunity, and their efforts continue to pay off,” Dillon said. “It’s really special to see their sustained success, and I could not be more Panther Proud.”
The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Now in its 40th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed approximately 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools.
