National Distinguished Principal
Mrs. Kelli Brown was honored at the September 8, 2015 meeting of the Petal School Board for her selection as the Mississippi representative for the National Distinguished Principal program. The program is sponsored by the National Association of Elementary School Principals in corporate partnership with Variable Annuity Life Insurance Company. According to the NAESP, the National Distinguished Principal program is designed to recognize the outstanding leadership of active principals. The program honors principals who have exhibited extraordinary leadership, commitment to their students and staff, service to their communities, and contributions to the overall profession.
Mrs. Brown is a graduate of Petal High School and began her teaching career there in 1999. In 2006 she became Assistant Principal at W. L. Smith Elementary, and was appointed principal at Petal Elementary School in 2010. According to Superintendent Dr. Matt Dillon, “Kelli Brown is extremely deserving of this award. She models the standards of excellence that are the expectation in the Petal School District. We are proud of the recognition for her personally and for our school district.”
As part of the award, Mrs. Brown will be honored at a two day event in Washington, D.C. in October. The festivities and programs will culminate with a formal banquet recognizing all state winners.
