Petal High School students in Gary Graves’s Entrepreneur class have been working with the Petal Area Chamber of Commerce Director, Valerie Wilson in the past few months. The class prepared proposals for ideas to increase participation in “shopping Petal first”, the Petal Christmas parade, and how to utilize technology to promote the Chamber. The students recently presented their proposals to Mrs. Wilson and other chamber members and have been invited to pursue their ideas and develop further detailed plans. In addition to assisting the Chamber of Commerce, the students are learning and applying real-life learning situations in their classes. This is just one example of the way the Petal School District is reshaping the way students are taught. From kindergarten to seniors, students are being exposed to more in-depth lessons, critical thinking, and life-application scenarios.
