*The City of Petal is donating approximately $200,000 for three pickleball courts for public use after hours. The Forrest County Board of Supervisors donated $200,000 toward the cost for the concessions, ticket booth and restrooms.

Business Office reconciles budget for the 2022-23 school year.

• A new elementary school will be constructed north of the Primary School on Herrington Road, on land currently owned by the district. This school will house third and fourth grades and will be constructed to accommodate future growth. 

• The current elementary school will become part of the Petal High School campus, providing much-needed space for Petal High School, which houses the largest number of students and the most diverse course offerings.

• A multi-purpose facility will be constructed on the Petal High School campus featuring a full-sized gymnasium complete with stadium seating and a stage to accommodate both arts and athletics. 

• In addition to creating space for teams to practice and compete, the multi-purpose facility will also offer opportunities for the Petal School District to host various camps and competitions, such as dance and cheer competitions, as well as JROTC exhibitions and indoor percussion events.

• The new tennis court complex will include six tennis courts and six pickleball courts. The pickleball courts will be open for public use after hours.
• The new concessions, ticket booth and restrooms facility will be located at the entrance to Panther Stadium next to the fieldhouse. 

The Petal School District is currently at maximum capacity! The district has experienced a 7% increase in the student population over the last five years, which is equivalent to almost the size of one grade. The addition of nearly 300 students has stretched the current facilities beyond their capacities.

Over the last eight years, the Petal School District has stewarded resources to meet the ever-increasing needs for expansion without asking the community for additional support, such as the widening of Herrington Road, a 10-room expansion in Petal Primary School, converting various workspaces into instructional space, adding portable classrooms and more. The district has continually offered creative solutions to maximize funds while protecting critical instructional time for students. 

• Residents within the district will experience a 4.5 mil increase in property taxes. It is expected the increase in property taxes will decrease over the duration of the bond as the community experiences continued growth.
