Discover Petal School District
The Petal School District (PSD) officially began in 1976 after community members decided they wanted to create a school district separate from the county school system. The City of Petal was incorporated specifically to form the new school district – a step signifying how important excellent educational opportunities were to the citizens of this community.
Since that time, school employees have worked hand in hand with the community to ensure the schools reflect the local values and quality of life inherent in the citizens of the PSD. While retaining its positive small-town atmosphere, Petal has become state and nationally known for its quality schools and award-winning athletic and performing arts programs.
The Petal School District (PSD) is a top-rated public school district with five schools serving more than 4,000 students in grades PreK through 12. PSD boasts the highest public school graduation rate in Mississippi at 98.6%; and consistently receives an "A" rating for its performance as part of Mississippi's Accountability System for Grading Schools and Districts.
The district is also home to two Milken Educator Award recipients and 65 National Board-Certified teachers. Petal High School was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School and is home to one U.S. Presidential Scholar.
