PETAL, Miss. –  The Petal School District (PSD) continues to set the standard for excellence and consistency in education statewide. The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has released the results of the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP), and PSD has earned a place among the top five districts statewide for test scores. Even more notably, Petal is one of only three districts in the entire state to have every school receive an A-rating this year. Since the inception of the accountability model in 2015, this marks the 11th consecutive year the district has achieved an overall A-rating.

“These results are more than numbers—they’re proof of a district and community dedicated to every student’s success. From our boardroom to our classrooms to our homes, and everywhere in between, there’s a shared commitment to helping fulfill our mission and core beliefs which are centered around students. All five schools in the district proudly earned an A-rating, and with a 95.8% graduation rate, Petal High School stands well above state (89.2%) and national (86.6%) averages. These accomplishments reflect the district’s commitment to preparing students for success in college, careers and life.

“As a board, our decisions are never made with test scores in mind—they’re made with the success and well-being of every student and staff member at the forefront,” said Jerry DeFatta, Petal School Board Chair. “These scores reflect that commitment, and we are proud of our district for the continued success that has now led to 11 straight years of earning an all A-ratings.”
