Petal Middle School science teacher Jordan Esperance has been named the 2025 Outstanding Middle/Junior High Science Teacher by the Mississippi Science Teaching Association (MSTA). This prestigious award recognizes educators who demonstrate excellence in science instruction, inspire curiosity in their students, and contribute to the advancement of science education across the state.
Esperance was selected for his innovative teaching approach that brings science to life in the classroom. His lessons encourage students to think and act like scientists—questioning, testing, and applying concepts in real-world situations.
“Mr. Esperance’s classroom is a place where curiosity thrives,” said Dr. Joel Bowman, principal of Petal Middle School. “He connects complex scientific ideas to hands-on experiences that spark a genuine love for learning. Beyond his classroom, his leadership and mentorship have elevated science instruction for both students and teachers across our school.”
In addition to his engaging classroom instruction, Esperance serves as a Professional Learning Community leader (PLC), mentors new teachers, and contributes to district-wide initiatives. His dedication to continuous growth—through advanced coursework, pursuit of National Board Certification, and professional collaboration—exemplifies his passion for both science and education.
“We are incredibly Panther proud of Mr. Esperance and the way he represents the Petal School District,” said Superintendent Dr. Matt Dillon. “His commitment to students and to the teaching profession is what makes Petal such a special place for learning.”
The MSTA presents annual awards to outstanding educators who model best practices in science instruction and leadership. Recipients are selected through a competitive nomination and review process that highlights excellence, innovation, and impact in science education.
