    Welcome to Spanish!!
    ¡¡Bienvenidos!!

Check out my video journal from my trip to HONDURAS!

My name is Laura Lee.  I have been teaching Spanish at various levels, including college and middle school, for 23 years.  I have a B.A. in Spanish (minor in English) from USM (1996) and a M.A.T.L. in Spanish (1999) from USM.  During my undergraduate studies I spent a summer term (1996) in Cuernavaca, México studying the language & culture.  During my stay I had the incredible opportunity to live with a Mexican family.  I have also traveled throughout Honduras on numerous mission trips (2007-2011).  I am currently working on a doctorate in Educational Leadership at William Carey University and should graduate in 2021.

I have three daughters, Alex, Kennedy, and Josie, and two grandsons- Jackson and Lucas.  Alex is a 2011 Petal graduate.  After teaching ELA for a couple of years, she is now a stay-at-home mom.  Kennedy is a 2017 graduate of Petal HS and is currently working on an undergraduate degree. Josie is an eighth-grade student at Petal Middle.  In my free time I enjoy spending time with family, cooking, painting, and listening to audio books.

I am a competitive powerlifter and a powerliting referee for USPA.  I traveled to Las Vegas, NV in July, 2017 to compete in the USPA National Championship Meet in which I placed 1st in Women's Master's division and 2nd in the Women's Open division.  I currently hold an IPL World Record for Women's Master's Deadlift as well as several USPA American & Mississippi State Records.
