My name is Amanda “Krissy” Carter-Welborn, Community-Based Special Education teacher at Petal Middle School. I am married and have three amazing children (two sons and a daughter) and one wonderful step-son. I began my career with an A.A.S. degree from JCJC in Marketing Business Management and worked in that field until my son started school in 2001. My son struggled greatly in school and still does at times. He was diagnosed with ADHD and received Special Education Services. This is when my career goals changed. I wanted to help him and other children who struggled with learning. I went back to school and graduated from USM with a BS in Special Education. I also have a Master’s Degree from UWA in Special Education. I have been teaching for 13 years all in Special Education. I am very active in my community and enjoy church and sporting events. I love spending time with my family and friends. My main hobby is genealogy where I spend my summers doing research and touring various court houses and cemeteries. My passion in life is the care and compassion that I have for others. I love helping people and want to see everyone succeed in their dreams. I encourage all students to DREAM BIG!
I am looking forward to meeting as well as knowing each student of my class and their parents. This year will be challenging but in the end will be worth it. We will be working on community involvement, social skills, life skills, vocational skills, reading and math. Each student’s lessons and activities will be different and individualized according to their IEP goals. We will be taking weekly field trips in order to meet many of these goals, which will require walking or riding on the bus. I hope to make this school year very successful for your child and will be there to motivate and encourage them every step of the way.
