• 4th Grade Language Arts *Expectations*

    This year, we have many new and exciting things that will take place. We have created units of study that will span many genres and will hopefully introduce your child to many new and exciting things. Not all 4th grade language arts classes will read the same book in a unit. Teachers will choose books within the units of study based on student interest and other assessments. All fourth grade language arts classrooms will cover the same skills each week but will differentiate lessons based on student needs.
     
    Language Arts is broken into three categories.
    1. Reading will cover Reading & Vocabulary skills.
    2. Writing will cover Grammar & Writing skills.
    3. Spelling will cover the weekly vocabulary words.

    Progress Checks:  Word Work Assessments, Grammar Practice, Writing Process, Scholastic News Quizes 
    Assessments: Writing Assessments, Reading Assessments

     

    **READ for 20 minutes each night!!!**
    A fourth grader should read 145 words per minute by the end of fourth grade.
     
    By reading each night for 20 minutes, your child will grow their fluency and comprehension skills that will help them achieve this goal by the end of the year.

    Remember that you can assess your child's grades through your Active Parent account. If you do not have an Active Parent account, please let me know and I can send the necessary paperwork home to you so you can create an account.
