Welcome to Mr. Esperance's 8th Grade Science Class!

Welcome to 8th grade Science! I am Mr. Esperance (Mr. E), and I will be your captain on this year’s journey. I can not wait to take you on an interactive trip around the science world! In this class we will look at many aspects of science including Earth, Life, and Physical Science. Along the way you will learn all about the natural world, the Earth you live on, the characteristics of life, the DNA that makes you, the many living things on this earth, how organisms change over time, and how sound and light work and travel. I cannot wait to go on this adventure with you all! So, buckle up… and let’s have some FUN!

    About your Teacher:

My name is Jordan Esperance. My students just call me Mr. E! I am from New Orleans, Louisiana! I am a high school graduate of St. Tammany Parish School Systems. After high school, I went to community/junior college to earn an Associates Degree in  Emergency Medical Sciences. I then went on to study at the University of Southern Mississippi, which caused me to move a hundred miles away to set up a new home in Hattiesburg. At USM, I studied Biology with an emphasis in Secondary Education, as well as PreMed (PreProfessional).  At USM, I was a teaching assistant, a learning assistant, and a tutor for all things science... this is where I found my love for teaching! In my time at USM, I served as the Community Service Chair and Chapter President for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. In 2021, I graduated with a Bachelor's of Biological Sciences Degree with endorsements in Education, Biology, and General Sciences. Student Teaching brought me to Petal Middle School ... and I have loved every minute of being a part of the Petal family (GO PANTHERS!)! In 2023, I received my Master's in Science Education and Biology. It is such an honor to be here!  I have studied a variety of sciences throughout my college, teaching, and professional career, and I am so excited to share this with my students. This will be my third year teaching 8th Grade Science at Petal Middle School, and there is no better place to be than #THEMIDDLE! I am honored to have been Petal School District's Rookie Teacher of the Year (2021-2022)!!! When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, or you can find me at home on my patio listening to music (ADELE) and an iced cinnamon dolce latte. And I cant forget... if I am not on my patio... you can find me somewhere hours deep into a series on Netflix. I can admit... I am addicted to Grey's Anatomy! I am excited for this year and I can not wait to see you guys LEARN!!!

    Contact/ Communication:

Petal Middle School uses School Status. You should all be connected already. This was set up through registration. Students and parents will receive updates and announcements with this software. Please contact me or the school if you are not registered in School Status. Active Parent/ Active Student can be used for students and parents to check their grades and monitor the student’s progress. I will update grades regularly.

If a student or parent needs to contact me, please email me at Jordan.Esperance@petalschools.com. Please allow for 48 hours response time. I try and get to emails fairly quickly, but two business days allows for me to give adequate and effective responses. If I do not respond in that time frame, please feel free to send me a follow-up email. If a phone call/ video call deems necessary please email me ASAP and we will schedule a conference via School Status.

Where Can I access/see Course Content?

We will use CANVAS as an online resource. Our class is set up under the title “2023-24 Science 8 AY Esperance”. In this shell, you will be directed to modules. These modules will be uploaded each week. Every note, powerpoint, link, document, etc. that is done in class will be posted here in the corresponding module. It is important that you check canvas regularly for notes, vocabulary, links, dates to remember, etc. I will also post class announcements here every week. I will update the canvas course page regularly... keep up with it!
