ABOUT OUT PRE-K PROGRAM
The Petal Primary School Pre-K Program is a free full-day program serving four year old students with and without disabilities Our students will participate in a variety of activities designed to stimulate social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth through planned learning experiences.
The Petal School District will employ two teachers, one general education teacher and one special education teacher, to support this blended Pre-K classroom. Both will have the necessary certifications and/or endorsements to serve preschool age children. These teachers will operate under a co-teaching model.
Petal Primary School will be accepting 20 students for the 2020-2021 school year. This preschool classroom will consist of 40-50% of students with disabilities. The other 50-60% of the students will represent the general education population of the classroom.
To qualify to apply for the Petal Primary School Pre-K Program, students must be four years old on or before September 1, 2020. All students must live with their parents/legal guardians within the boundaries of our district and meet all requirements for attendance in the Petal School District.
All students wishing to attend this blended Pre-K classroom will be required to submit an application to attend. The general education students will be chosen based on a universal screener and ability to serve as peer models for students with disabilities. IEP committes will meet on each four each old with a current special education eligilibity to determine which students would benefit from participation in the program and develop specific IEP goals based on the needs of the students.
