2022/23 Culinary Arts Syllabus
Originally from Clinton, MS, I have been in the restaurant business in Jackson as well as Hattiesburg for many years. I graduated from University of Southern Mississippi in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree with the highest honors. My career in the restaurant industry has included multiple roles at a variety of establishments. Most recently, I taught culinary classes for kids and adults at The Kitchen Table, as well as working as a private chef and operating my catering company. Other positions included chef and manager at Jody's Bakery, Jody's at The Hour and the first chef at The Lake Terrace Convention Center under Robert St. John's Purple Parrot Caterers.
We had an exciting year and I am anticipating a great year at Petal High School and look forward to many new experiences that come with being a part of the Petal High School family.
As we begin the new school year, we are faced with a changing classroom environment that we are managing on a day-to-day basis. Currently, we will have enhanced classroom and lab (kitchen) safety protocols. The students will be required to follow the school guidelines as well as the classroom safety guidelines to ensure a healthy environment for all participants. Masks will be required at all times for the culinary classroom, per industry standards.
Our mission is to prepare students to be productive and marketable employees in a high-demand, highly skilled workplace by integrating experiential learning, quality instruction, and connections with community partners.
