    Course Description:
    This curriculum develops skills needed to improve the quality of life. This course emphasizes the physical, social, mental, and emotional demensions of people so that the students become better informed to solve problems and make decisions related to good health practices. The students will explore personalhealth, physical activity, nutrition, drug abuse prevention, growth and development, four phases of health, first aid, safety, disease prevention and control, community and family life.

    Competencies:
    Comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention.
    Demonstrate the ability to obtain valid health information.
    Demonstrate the ability to practice health - enhancing behaviors and reduce health risk.
    Analyze the influence of culture, media, technology, and other factors on health.
    Demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health.
    Demonstrate the ability to use goal - setting and decision - making skills to enhance health.
    Demonstrate the ability to advocate personal, family, and community health.

    Grading:

    Daily grades (Current events, quizzes, and other classroom assignments)

    Test grades (Chapter tests and class projects)

     

    1st 9 Weeks: 

    Health and Wellness, Successful Decisions and Goals, Building Self-Esteem, Physical Fitness

    2nd 9 Weeks:

    Tobacco, Alcohol, Drug Prevention, Nutrition, Healthy Body and Weight

    3rd 9 Weeks:

    Mental and Emotional Health, Stress Management, Encouraging Healthy Relationships, Conflict and Violence

    4th 9 Weeks:

    Infectious Diseases, Noninfectious Diseases, Body Change, Personal Safety
