I often hear students say things like “I just don’t get it!”.  My goal for these students is two-fold.  First, we must move beyond the automatic “I don’t get it” response that students tend to use as an excuse for giving up when faced with a challenge.  I want students to make specific statements such as “I don’t understand what to do next” or “I don’t know what these directions are asking me to do”.  This tells me that students are actively trying to understand.  Second, students must learn to ask for help.  Many students do not understand that while I am constantly monitoring their work, I am also monitoring every other student in the classroom at the same time.  This sometimes prevents me from knowing when they are struggling with a concept.  Asking for help is the only way to assure that they get the assistance they need.
If your student is struggling, encourage them to come see me outside of class time. Students can speak with me and arrange a time for us to work together on their specific problems or weaknesses.  This will usually occur before school and is arranged on a case by case basis.

Please stay informed of your student’s progress at all times.  Active Parent is an exceptional tool that allows you to see all of your student's grades as they are posted.  I intend to post grades about once per week (depending on when assignments are completed and graded).  You must have an account set up to utilize this service.  If you do not already have an account you can create one by contacting Central Office.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, please contact me.  Consistent communication between home and school is the best way to make sure that students are receiving the help that they need!
