      “Story of an Hour” shift in characterization, Point of View, Routine Writing

    Week 6:

    W8.4 Essay for the Mississippi State Capitol; Writing Sprints to Mississippi legislatures. Family interviews; Rough Draft; Final Draft

     

    Week 7:

    Students will choose between writing a letter to their future self or writing an 8th grade commencement speech to their classmates. Read J.K. Rowling’s Harvard University Commencement Speech.

    Science:

    • Week 1:  Natural Resources and Human Impact ppt and student handout to go along with ppt.  Renewable and Nonrenewable Resources ppt with student handout.

     

    • Week 2:  Students will check answers to powerpoints using teacher key.  Students will complete 2 quizlets assigned in google classroom on natural resources.  Students will read an article in biomass and answer questions. Students will have an online socratic seminar. Paper copies of quizlets and article are available.

     

    • Week 3:  Students will work on a genetics review lessons 1-6 and punnett square practice.  Students will use a power point, USAtest prep, quizlet and student handouts to review material. All materials will be available on paper as well as on google classroom. 

     

    • Week 4:  Genetic quizlet (complete 2 activities), USAtestprep assignment “Genetic Review”  there are 6 lessons, “Feeding Africa” article with questions, watch video “Amoeba Sisters: Mitosis” and draw PMAT and answer questions from video.  

     

    • Week 5: Mitosis quizlet, Cell Division Mitosis Asexual Reproduction read and questions, Mitosis and Meiosis stations with answer sheet.  

     

    • Week 6: Review parts of cell on quizlet, Level of Organization Read with 4 questions, Amoeba Sisters video with 10 questions, Level of Organization ppt with student handout. 

     

    • Week 7:  Review the body systems with a “Body Systems” read and fill in the blank body systems review.

     


    History:

    • Week 1:

    8th Grade: MS Studies: Introduce the first European Settlements in Mississippi (Fort Maurepas and Fort Rosalie) through the use of Google Classroom. Mississippi becomes a state despite controversy. Mississippi Roads Video

    Week 6:

    8th Grade: Intro to Geography: Antarctica Map Skills  (All work will be in Google Classroom and paper copies will be available for pick up at PMS)  Video and additional resources will also be in Google Classroom.                                        

    8th Grade: MS Studies:  What is the Mississippi Sound? Islands of Mississippi -- Students will research the islands of Mississippi and their history/importance. Students will study the battle of Vicksburg

     

    Week 7:  

    8th Grade: Intro to Geography: What is geoliteracy? Reflection (All work will be in Google Classroom and paper copies will be available for pick up at PMS)  Video and additional resources will also be in Google Classroom.
