April 16, 2020
Good morning PPS families, I wanted to share a few things with you as we adjust to the news shared by Governor Reeves regarding campuses being closed for the remainder of the school year. Since school buildings will be closed through the remainder of the semester we are going to be continuing our at-home learning a little longer than originally anticipated.
I cannot say enough about how proud I am of our teachers, your children, and your families for rallying around this unprecedented time and embracing the changes we are all facing. Our teachers have been diligent to contact our students and work to replicate as best they can at-home learning materials for you, our families. While we cannot replicate an actual classroom experience, it has been our goal to provide materials that would engage your children for a period of time and reinforce the skills we have been teaching this school year. This experience has been different for everyone involved. Our students are each in very different situations - some are home with multiple siblings, some are home with grandparents, older siblings, or neighbors, some are attending daycares during the day. Our parents/guardians are all in different situations as well - some have lost jobs, some are essential workers pulling 8-12 hour shifts, some are home juggling the demands of taking care of the day to day with the added stress of children at home too. And everyone is balancing the changes that our economy is having on each of us personally. We are truly all in this together and I can’t think of a better community to be in at this time.
This coming week, April 20-24th our teachers will be sharing a Google Form with all families to gather information from you regarding Google Meets for small group instruction. Our plan for the remainder of the year is to provide opportunities for our teachers and students to have learning time together. We know everyone will not be able to participate, but we are going to provide this opportunity for those that are able to join. There are multiple wifi spots across Petal to help everyone gain access. Please visit our school district website to see all the available hotspots and other important information regarding at-home learning for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
We will continue providing weekly modules via Google Classroom and/or learning packets. These modules will continue to be available each Friday for the upcoming week. Please continue to stay in contact with your child’s teacher and our office if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions for us to improve during this time. We will share more information soon regarding how we will distribute your child’s material/supplies and any belongings still on our campus.
Lastly, we want your child and your family to know how much we love and miss you! Our teachers are devastated to not be in class with your child daily. Your children are THE REASON we chose to become educators. Despite the difficulties of this time, we will rebound and we will be stronger due to this storm. We’ve challenged our PPS staff to find joy and guidance in the stillness and truly reflect during this time.
We hope your families are well and finding the opportunities during this time to draw closer to one another. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for your family.

Good morning PPS families,
What a week it has been in our nation, state, and community. This past Spring Break was certainly not what we expected, but I hope you found time to enjoy your family anyway. I wanted to share a few things with you as we adjust to our new normal. Since schools will be closed through April 17th, we are going to be operating a little different over the next 4 weeks.
For this week, we want your children to enjoy an extra week of Spring Break. We’ve shared some fun activities for you guys to do each day as a family on our Facebook page and on our PPS website. Your child’s teacher will also be sending a picture of the activities through school status later today. We hope you will use this week to flood social media with some fun and exciting things to balance out the information being shared through our Panther Pride spirit week.
Our teachers are all back at work today - we are utilizing video conferencing for our staff to meet with a very small number of teachers who are on campus preparing an at home learning plan for our PPS students. This at home learning plan will have two platforms - one that combines paper/pencil hands on activities with online resources and one that is strictly paper/pencil hands on activities. We know everyone will not have access to internet and it is our goal to ensure ALL students receiving engaging activities. We will share the plan for how we will distribute the weekly “at home learning packets”Later this week. It will be a drive thru plan here at PPS - but we will share specific details toward the end of the week. We will share a suggested schedule later this week as well to help you manage your kiddos time at home. Please know this is a suggested schedule only. You know your child best, and we know you will develop a routine that works best for your family. The goal of our at-home learning plan is to provide review type activities to keep your child engaged over the next four weeks. Many of you may be nervous about your new role as a teacher - but don’t worry, you can do this! Remember, You know your child best - the most things they need right now are routine, safety, and engagement. Our teachers are available via phone call, text message, or email during regular school hours. Don’t hesitate to give us a call.
We will plan to distribute Chromebooks later this week to any PPS student needing a device. We will share this plan with you as soon as it is solidified. If you have a laptop or iPad at home already, your child can certainly use it. If you need a device, we are happy to check one out to you. Look for more information about the distribution plan tomorrow.
Over the coming weeks please know we are here to help you and your family in any way we can. While our buildings will be closed to visitors, we will have staff available to answer phone calls and provide assistance to your family.
Please take advantage of the feeding program that begins today. Breakfast and lunch will be served Monday-Friday at PES and PMS In a drive thru fashion. All students 18 and under eat free.
Your child’s teacher will be reaching out to you today and tomorrow to ensure we have a good contact number and email address for all of our students. They can’t wait to hear how your child has been this week. We are all sad to not see your child’s face at PPS today, but we know keeping our community safe is the number one priority now.
We hope you each have a great day!
