Passport to Learning
Petal School District Press Release
June 2, 2015
The Petal School District has launched "Passport to Learning," our very first summer learning program. This voluntary program was developed in order to prevent summer learning loss for students ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade.
Students who participate will earn a stamp on their own "passport" as they complete grade-level specific activities in reading, writing, science and math.
"Passport to Learning" also encourages students to participate in programs at the local libraries, take virtual museum tours and continue working with Accelerated Reader. The goal is to have fun while learning throughout the summer months. Students will also receive incentives for participation.
Students in kindergarten through fourth grades received a paper passport, while fifth through eighth graders were enrolled in a virtual Google classroom. Each school’s library will be open on Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. throughout the summer for students to have additional support and internet access.
