PSD Names Steven Hampton, PHS Principal

 The Petal School District Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Steven Hampton as principal at Petal High School at a special called meeting on June 1, 2015. Hampton will replace current Principal Steve Simmons who recently announced his retirement effective June 30th.

 Hampton is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and completed a Master’s of Education degree In Educational Leadership at the University of Southern Mississippi. He is currently in the last phase of earning a PhD in Educational Leadership from USM.  He began his teaching career at Greene County High School in 1998 and taught for one year at Richton Middle School before joining the Petal School District in 2006. From 2006-2008 Hampton was a teacher/coach at Petal Middle School. In 2008 he became the Assistant Principal at PMS and in 2013 was appointed as the Career-Technical Education Director/Assistant Principal at Petal High School.

 Hampton will begin transitioning into the principal position immediately. When asked for his comment, Hampton stated, “I’m excited to have the opportunity to lead Petal High School. I look forward to working with students, staff and parents to continue the tradition of excellence prevalent in the Petal School District for many years.”
